Our first repeat offenders from 2017's Raleigh Deathfest also hail from the current epicenter of Southeastern metal, Richmond, VA, comes in the shape of the death metal machine that is Deathcrown - "Deathcrown is a band born from 25 years of influence and a passion for brutality. In the summer of 2014, Tommy Gunn and long-time friend Mikael Parks (Vocals - ex-Arsis/Narsilion) were having a few beers, cranking some early 90's Edge Of Sanity, Entombed, Morbid Angel, etc… They decided that getting back to their roots was long overdue. They released "Living Hell" in June 2016 on cassette through Primitive Ways Records, and in September 2016 on CD through Lost Apparitions Records. Deathcrown does quite a bit of DIY touring, and is heading to the studio soon for the next release."

Raleigh's Eldritch Horror have blessed the stage with their Lovecraft inspired punishing style of brutal death at all three Raleigh Deathfests - "The long standing overlords of Raleigh's death metal scene since their inception in the early 90s even appearing on King Fowley's "Midnight Offerings" return after a very long hiatus. Eldritch Horror reformed in 2014 and self produced their first full length release which includes never before recorded classics and rerecorded demo tracks and are currently working on a follow up to 2015's "Untouched By The Sun."

Another Raleigh hometown favorite adding to the expanding sound of Riff City is Mo'ynoq (named for a former Russian fishing city reduced to a literal wasteland after the lake was drained). GRUESOME TWISTING EUROPE 2018

It's been three years since Gruesome's 2015 full-length debut album Savage Land, though to be fair the band has filled the time between with two excellent EP releases since then. Now we've been informed that Gruesome will release their second full length, titled Twisted Prayers, sometime this summer via Relapse Records! The album was recorded with producer Jarrett Pritchard (Exhumed, 1349, Goatwhore, Wolvhammer) at New Constellation Studios in Orlando, Florida, and "follows Death's paradigm shift during the Spiritual Healing era." So get stoked, because Gruesome is clearly about to bring you back to the old-school realm of killer death metal.

Gruesome remains guitarist and vocalist Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Expulsion), guitarist Daniel Gonzalez (Possessed), bassist Robin Marzen (Castrator, Derkéta), and drummer Gus Rios (Evil Amidst, Upon Infliction). The band has also announced a European tour for this July and August, and you can get those dates below.

EXUMED & ARKAIK TOUR NOVEMBER 2017

Gore metal maniacs EXHUMED today announce a US headlining tour set to commence November 15th and run through December 8th. Support will be provided by Arkaik. The trek will follow the band’s previously announced short run of live dates with The Black Dahlia Murder, Suffocation, Decrepit Birth and more as well as a performance at Ozzfest Meets Knotfest on November 5th in San Bernardino, California. “We can’t wait to unleash a casket full of new tunes and old favorites on some maniacs,” issues frontman Matt Harvey. “It’s been too long since we rolled into your town, drank all your beer, and ripped your faces off. See you there, you filthy animals!”

The band’s sixth full-length sees them tread into ambitious new territory with their first concept album: a musical melodrama in thirteen parts based on shocking true events. Death Revenge takes place in the late 1820s in Edinburgh, Scotland and tells the macabre tale of a series of brutal murders where the victims’ cadavers were sold to anatomists, amid a grisly underground trade of grave-robbery. Recorded with producer Jarrett Pritchard (Goatwhore, Eternal, Gruesome), Death Revenge takes the band’s signature gore-drenched, death metal mayhem to theatrical and ghastly new depths. North America will be brutalized this summer with the 2016 ‘One Foot in the Grave’ tour. Extreme metal legends Carcass will bring Crowbar, Ghoul and Night Demon on the road for 17 shows beginning this July.

Whenever Carcass come stateside, metal fans know they’re in for a killer show. Carcass helped innovate extreme metal, grindcore and goregrind; and they’ll be sharing the road with one of America’s essential innovators in Crowbar. From the swamps of New Orleans, Crowbar slowed down brutally heavy music to its sludgiest depths. Though they may be opposites at heart, the combination of these two acts on one bill is phenomenal.

“We’re here on the presidential trail — ‘Rock against Trump, rock against Clinton, rock against Sanders, rock against that annoying Texan dude (whatever his name is) and the other older guy who stuffs his face with pasta,” says Carcass frontman Jeff Walker.
