One killer book. One killer show. Eight of the best death metal and grindcore bands on earth. If you love the underground, there’s no alternative: choose Choosing Death Fest.
In celebration of 2015’s revised and expanded edition of Choosing Death: The Improbable History of Death Metal and Grindcore (penned by Decibel Magazine editor-in-chief Albert Mudrian), we’ve lured eight of extreme music’s most pugnacious practitioners to Philadelphia, PA’s Union Transfer on Saturday, April 16: Dying Fetus, Nails, Misery Index, Deceased, Noisem, Horrendous, Magrudergrind and Taphos Nomos. (What better way to celebrate the fifth annual Decibel Magazine Tour, which will conclude the day before at the same venue?)
Co-presented by Decibel Magazine and Grimposium (with special thanks to Nuclear Blast, Relapse and All In Merch), Choosing Death Fest offers a who’s-who of both veteran and on-the-verge bands that have appeared in celebrated Decibel staples like our Hall of Fame (Dying Fetus, Deceased), Flexi Series (Nails, Misery Index, Deceased and Noisem, with Horrendous to come in 2016) and the Top 40 Albums of the Year (Horrendous’ Anareta was our #1 album of 2015). As Decibel always keeps a nostalgic eye on the past, most—if not all—of the bands will be performing at least one old-school death metal cover. Not only that, but a variety of special guests and events tied to the fest will be announced in 2016 as well.
Obviously, the unifying factor of this special event is the Choosing Death book itself. In early 2015, Decibel Books made the renowned underground metal chronicle its inaugural release: the new, hardcover, hand-numbered Choosing Death (limited to 3,000 copies worldwide) features 100 new pages, 50 new interviews, three new chapters and cover art from legendary artist Dan Seagrave. Limited autographed copies are still available at store.decibelmagazine.com
Tickets for Choosing Death Fest ($22 advance or $25 day of show) go on sale Saturday, December 19 at www.utphilly.com.
